Roads and Communications

A well connected network of transport and communication system is an essential component of infrastructure for a developing economy .The road connects the producers and consumers through market. The economic significance of roads for agriculture and industry is well understood. All weather connectivity to every village is necessary for improving the quality of life and economic conditions in rural areas. The district is having 269.55Kms of state high ways, 121.53Kms. major district roads, 140.44 kms is other district roads1506.21Kms. as rural roads, 4838 kms as grampanchayat roads, 1354Kms P.S roads and 210.51Kms. as forest road . The progress of road and communication in the district is satisfactory. All the block headquarters are connected with the state capital by road and railway lines. Inter-state buses are plying to neighbouring states like Andhrapradesh and Chhatisgarh. Most of the business men of the districts are depending on this communication for their purchases at Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam in Andhrapradesh and Jagdalpur and Raipur both in Chhatishgarh. The district is well connected with rail. Rayagada- Sambalpur - Rourkela, Rayagada- Jaddalpur -Raipur, Rayagada – Vizianagarm - Visakhapatnam, Rayagada-Bhubaneswar are linked to provide better communication.

Railways

Rayagada district comes under the East Cost Railway. Although being declared as Division , it is still operated under Visakhapatnam Division. Their are 6 stations in the district. Rayagada Station is a junction of three routes which leads to Vizianagaram, Koraput and Titlagarh. Every day there are about 25 trains which pass through Rayagada Station. There are 3 platforms in the station which is connected by 2 overhead bridges.

 

There is well connected with rail lines which is one of the vital means of transport and communication. The broad gauge lines are connected to the neighbouring states like Andhrapradesh and Chhatisgarh as well as other states and cities all over the country. The tribal people of the district are widely depending on railway for their travelling and transportation from the remote areas and also marketing of the surplus products of the area.

Airways

Nearest air port is at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) 200 KMs away which is well connected with New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Nagpur by going flights.
